Spinach
The stories are about a dog who lives in London. He enjoys making new friends and loves travelling on London buses. He likes nothing better than discovering and exploring new places, can’t resist having adventures… and is green!
Spinach stories are primarily written for children at key stage one, but will appeal to a broader range of children. Younger children delight in the characters, older children love the stories and adults enjoy the humour. All get an enthusiasm for the amazing city of London, which forms a backdrop to the stories.
In later stories Spinach discovers other forms of transport as well as buses and due to his curiosity and misadventure finds himself in all sorts of places, in Britain and abroad, including Paris, New York and even in Africa.
At the heart of all Spinach books is a journey of discovery and adventure! They are written with three primary purposes in mind, to entertain, enthuse and educate!
Entertain: For children to enjoy the stories and pictures
Enthuse: For children to follow Spinach on his adventures and misadventures, the characters he meets
Educate: To educate young children about the amazing city that London is and also about the other places Spinach visits. There is a map on the back so children can follow Spinach’s route and if they like, explore it for themselves, and even make possibly similar discoveries!
Paul Chapman
Paul has been a qualified architect for many years, working on everything from house extensions to major shopping centres, in the UK and internationally.
Paul met Spinach a very long time ago when he arrived as a Christmas present. Lots of other dogs were given that year but Spinach was the only green one with tartan ears. Paul started writing stories about Spinach soon after that and has written many children’s stories about Spinach and other characters, but was looking for an illustrator. Then a friend suggested he should illustrate them as well, and that’s where the books began to take off. Earlier books were hand drawn and then formatted on a computer, but now all drawing is done directly on an Ipad.
Paul might claim a degree of authorship but played no part in meeting Spinach in the first place or inspiration for the stories or having the ability to write them down. For those and so many other matters credit can only go to God.
